Discount Comic Book Service and Things From Another World are proud to announce that they are joining the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund as corporate members–the first comic book retailers to do so since the CBLDF’s inception in 1986. In addition to this landmark show of support, these retail powerhouses will be launching ongoing fundraising efforts by offering a series of exclusive variants, with a portion of the proceeds going to the CBLDF. Details to follow.

The Comic Book Legal Defense Fund is a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting the First Amendment rights of the comics medium. In addition to creating and distributing informational resources, the CBLDF provides legal aid, education, and advocacy to protect the rights of the readers, creators, retailers, publishers, and librarians of comics, manga, and graphic novels.

“As a longtime friend of the CBLDF and their efforts protecting the First Amendment rights of publishers, creators, retailers, and the comics community as a whole, I can think of no organization more deserving of our support,” said Dark Horse Comics/TFAW Founder & President, and CBLDF Advisory Board member, Mike Richardson. “We have shared the goals and ethics of the CBLDF from their earliest days and I am proud to take this important step in strengthening an already firm relationship.”

DCBS co-owner Christina Merkler says, “We are very excited to fully support the CBLDF in all of their work and also to partner with TFAW in our ongoing fundraising efforts for the CBLDF.”

“The CBLDF provides services and support that are crucial to the comics industry,” said TFAW Vice President and CBLDF Board Member Andrew McIntire. “We are thrilled to increase our level of support, and honored to undertake further fundraising efforts with an excellent partner like DCBS.”

Cameron Merkler, co-owner of DCBS adds, “All retailers understand the importance of the work done by the CBLDF, and as an ongoing supporter of the CBLDF, we felt it was time to make the maximum commitment possible.”

“We are grateful to see the teams at DCBS and TFAW taking a leadership position in their support of the Fund’s important work,” says CBLDF Executive Director Charles Brownstein. “It’s gratifying to see these two organizations who are pillars of the retailing community making a serious investment in the CBLDF’s ability to protect the readers, creators, and sellers of comic books.”

DCBS has been an active supporter of the CBLDF since 2010, and has distributed thousands of pieces of literature raising awareness of CBLDF’s important efforts.

TFAW has been an active supporter of the CBLDF since 2009, and has helped raise more than $100,000 by soliciting artwork for their annual auction at San Diego Comic-Con over the past five years.
