Back to School with Comics: CBLDF Banned Books Week Handbook

As educators and librarians gear up for a new school year, we’re taking to opportunity to highlight our free resources designed to help students — and everyone else — love and appreciate comics! Today we feature the CBLDF Banned Books Week Handbook, which is a resource anyone can use to plan a Banned Books Week celebration in their community! It includes banned comics, programming ideas, and more. It also features a gorgeous cover by bestselling — and banned — comics creator Raina Telgemeier (Drama, Smile, Sisters)!

CBLDF Banned Books Week Handbook 2015 is a free resource that gives you the scoop about what comics are banned, how to report and fight censorship, and how to make a celebration of Banned Books Week in your community! Young Adult books will be the focus of Banned Books Week, the annual celebration of the freedom to read which will run from September 27 through October 3, 2015, and will be observed in libraries, schools, bookstores and other community settings across the nation and the world. The handbook can be viewed below and you can download it here. Bundles of the printed handbook are also available in the Rewards Zone, and it will be in stores on September 2, 2015.

Banned Books Week is sponsored by the American Booksellers Association, American Booksellers for Free Expression, American Library Association, American Society of Journalists and Authors, Association of American Publishers, Comic Book Legal Defense Fund, Freedom to Read Foundation, National Association of College Stores, National Coalition Against Censorship, National Council of Teachers of English, PEN American Center, People for the American Way Foundation, and Project Censored.
