A Look at CBLDF’s 30th Anniversary Auction

To celebrate its 30th anniversary of protecting the First Amendment rights of the comics community, Comic Book Legal Defense Fund (CBLDF) and Heritage Auctions are offering 11 important works at auction. The pieces come from the 1987 “A Benefit Portfolio in Defense of the First Amendment” that led to the creation of the non-profit organization. Developed in partnership with IDW Publishing, consulting supporter of CBLDF’s auction campaigns, the original art will be offered during Heritage Auctions autumn Comics Auction Nov. 17-19 live in Beverly Hills and on HA.com.

IDW Publishing’s President and Chief Operating Officer Greg Goldstein is CBLDF’s auction advisor, and set up this important event. He says, “CBLDF’s ongoing efforts to defend and protect First Amendment rights are more important than ever. The work included in this auction represents one of the most important social actions comics ever took, because they provided the basis for establishing CBLDF, which for 30 years has protected and help expand the First Amendment protections our industry relies upon. IDW is proud to support their work, and we call upon the community who made it possible for us to publish more than 50 volumes critically-acclaimed and best-selling line of Artist Edition books to join us in generously contributing to this important cause.”
