CBLDF Member Meeting — New Year, Next Steps

Thursday, January 28, CBLDF hosted a members meeting. If you missed it, never fear, you can watch a recording of the event on the CBLDF YouTube channel or through the embed below.

In the meeting, the staff had the opportunity to reintroduce ourselves to the community and speak about what we have been working on and what we will be working on in the upcoming year.

On the theme of New Year, Next Steps, the meeting presented the refocusing of our mission. While First Amendment rights and the Freedom of Speech will still be a part of the organization’s focus, we’ll also be widening our scope. To better serve the community, we will also be focusing on:

  • Educating the public on legal and ethical matters
  • Protecting the rights of the comic arts community
  • Fostering respect for free expression and the comic arts
  • Collaborating with other organizations

Other topics of discussion included new internal reorganization, expanding the board, and the development of an updated ethics policy.

The event ended with an open Q&A session. We want to keep a dialogue open between CBLDF and the community. Helping creators, retailers, publishers, and others in the comics community with legal issues is central to our mission — please feel free to let us know about comic arts related incidents, contact us for help, or refer people in need of legal advice. You can send any requests or notifications to info@cbldf.org.

Our next members meeting will be Thursday, February 25. The focus for our February meeting will be membership; more details to come. We hope to see you there!

Panelists include Karen Evans (Education Director), Betsy Gomez (Consultant), Georgia Nelson (Director of Operations), Jordan Smith (Editor), and Jeff Trexler (Interim Executive Director).
