Hi, Friends of Liberty!

After a year of collaboration, preparation and production with Cryptozoic Entertainment, I finally had the finished product in my hands: factory sealed, unopened boxes of CBLDF Liberty Trading Cards.

Like any project I’ve ever worked on, there is always that nervous moment when you take the product out of its shipping case and are about to discover if everything actually came out the way it was intended.

I decided to open up five boxes and see what treasures were hidden inside.

Hi, Friends of Liberty!

Welcome to the 12 installment of our behind the scenes sneak peeks of CBLDF Liberty Trading Cards.

Past posts have centered on depictions of fan-fave characters created by well known artists like Matt Wagner, Stan Sakai, James Kochalka, Jeff Smith, Erik Larsen, and Todd McFarlane.

Today, I’m going to show you some of the more off-beat cards I’ve had the pleasure of discovering in the increasingly large treasure trove of one-of-a-kind artist sketch cards that are amassing in the Cryptozoic Entertainment Loot Vault.

Hello Friends of Liberty!

The Comic Book Legal Defense Fund is a non-profit organization is dedicated to protecting First Amendment rights of the comic book community. That means all of us: creators, publishers, distributors, retailers, librarians, and fans. It’s CBLDF’s mission to spring into action whenever and wherever we are needed to protect freedom of speech.

We are living in transitional times. In the past, much of the suppression of free speech focused on comic book shops. As the 21st century unfolds, some overzealous people forget how the constitution guarantees our rights to express ourselves without the censorship or impediment of government.

Hi, Friends of Liberty!

I spent the afternoon at the Crytpozoic Entertainment offices yesterday. Saw a whole lotta cards that have come in over the last week. Incredibly diverse stuff. Artists featuring their own characters. Artists taking a shot at favorite characters and rendering them in their own unique style. A great example of that is showcased in these sneak-peek of a few Savage Dragon cards below…

It’s a Tyched-out Thursday here at CBLDF.

We’re getting all sorts of multiple card tableaus .In the world of high-brow art these multi-paneled works are called diptychs, triptychs. quadriptychs and so on.

As I’ve said before, I’m well aware of that these connecting subsets of one-of-a-kind sketch cards might drive fans downright batty. But I also know hardcore collectors will be relentless hunters of the individual cards that feature their favorite artists and characters. Hey, the chase of elusive prey is a key part of collecting. We at CBLDF and Cryptozoic Entertainment are just doing our part to keep collecting as challenging and fun as it’s supposed to be.

We’re rushing towards all sorts of deadlines.

Let me rephrase that.

The deadlines are hurtling towards us!

Hello again.

As everyone already knows, Stan Sakai is the incredibly talented creator of Usagi Yojimbo. Every time I go into a comic book store or a public library, I’m quite blown away by just how many Usagi Yojimbo comics, trade paperbacks and monthly comics Stan has produced since 1987.
