July 15, 2000Countdown to Comic-Con International
Mark Waid (JLA), Peter David (Captain Marvel), Jimmy Palmiotti (Punisher), Amanda Conner (Gatecrasher), Scott McCloud (Reinventing Comics), Will Eisner (Spirit), Frank Cho (Liberty Meadows), Jim Woodring (Frank), Dave Cooper (Weasel), Kurt Busiek (Astro City), Lewis Trondheim (of L'Association), James Kochalka (Kissers), Brian Ralph (Cave In) and Jeff Smith (Bone) are the names we've assembled to appear at our booth for an hour each in order to sign comics and answer fan questions. Of course, this stable of stars is not the only reason to stop by our booth. We will also be signing up new CBLDF members throughout the show. Any active member of the CBLDF is not just invited but encouraged and to be presumptuous, expected to attend the CBLDF Members' Party (sponsored by Dark Horse Comics). The party will be held Saturday, July 22, on the bottom floor of the South Tower in the San Diego Marriott. Not only comics fans, but creators, publishers, and other professionals will be in attendance, and the evening will provide a great opportunity to chat and mingle with comics celebrities in a setting far from the hubbub and brouhaha that characterizes the floor of the show. So, you're already a member and you know about the party, but there's still plenty of reasons to stop by our booth. The new Frank Miller Marv t-shirt, featuring Miller's most famous mug with a special message for CBLDF supporters, will debut at the show. Knowing how fast Miller's shirts sell, we recommend coming by the booth early to snatch this one up and be the first at the show to have it. Also on display at the CBLDF booth for its convention debut is Moebius's pensive new CBLDF t-shirt. Be sure to see our extensive array of donated books and prints, as well as our other t-shirts which have become classics in their own right. While you're at the booth, ask about the 2001 CBLDF Making Waves Fundraising Cruise. Guests Jimmy Palmiotti, Amanda Conner, Peter David, and Scott McCloud will all be on board next year. Be sure to ask Kurt Busiek, Mark Waid, Jeff Smith, and Will Eisner how they enjoyed this year's cruise. Not convinced? A skeptic perhaps? Even the most hard-hearted cynic will be thrilled and struck dumb by the Expo 2000 Anthology, which at 352 pages for just seven bucks is the best bargain at the show. What more do you need? We've planned for you, suffered for you, and almost bled for you? The plan is in place, so come to Comic-Con and reap the rewards.
