March 1, 2001Wont You Help to Sing These Songs of Freedom?
The fun begins on Friday with two evening events. CrossGen Comics is sponsoring a CBLDF Members Reception on Friday at 8:00 pm. This casual, cartoonist-filled cocktail party takes place in the Coral One room of the Sheraton World. Its CBLDF Members Only, but everyone is welcome to join the Fund at the show. At 9:00 pm, Mark Waid takes the stage as your host for Songs of Freedom. Comics looniest luminaries will grab the spotlight and serenade the audience with more or less on-key renditions of some of your favorite tunes. As an added incentive, and for a small donation, you can choose who sings and you can choose what song! Just imagine, you can test George Perezs vocal range with MacArthur Park, or see the softer side of Jimmy Palmiotti as he sings Mandy to main squeeze. CBLDF Members are welcome to stay for this strange and swinging affair, and everyone else gets in for a measly $3 at the door. While Songs of Freedom is sure to be the highlight of this years show, MegaCon will have many other delights to tempt even the most obstinately tone-deaf fans. As one of the fastest growing shows in the country, MegaCon has a star-studded guest list that seems a veritable pantheon of modern creators including both John Romitas, Peter David, Roy Thomas, Joe Casey, Brian Pulido, Billy Tucci, and the aforementioned Waid. Jimmy Palmiotti and Amanda Conner will even be signing at the CBLDF booth (#1015) on Saturday, March 3rd from 3:00 5:00 p.m. Make sure you stop by and ask Amanda about her new t-shirt design for the Fund! So, in the spirit of Bob Marley, this MegaCon will truly be jamming. If you come to the show, stay for the party and vice versa. We guarantee that you probably wont regret it.
