January 10, 1998Report: Big Apple ConOn January 10, 1998 Big Apple Promotions organized its first Big Apple Con of the year in the basement of St. Marks church on Ninth Avenue in Manhattan. Booking agent Allan Rosenberg invited the CBLDF to attend after Big Apple owner Mike Carbonaro graciously donated a table for the Fund to use. Over 1,800 people attended. The show featured dozens of retailers from around the country, an impressive display by Penthouse Comix, an appearance by extra-terrestrial rock group Gwar, artist Mark Bode, and Shi creator Bill Tucci. The show raised $500 for the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund, which was represented by Assistant Director Chris Bleistein and Donations Coordinator Mike Dow. |
