January 24 & 25Report: Chicago Comic FestOn January 24 & 25 the CBLDF attended the first annual Chicago Comic Fest, organized by Motor City Productions. MCP graciously donated space to the CBLDF for its appearance, and we were represented by volunteers Steve Harold and Tim Gagne. The show was a great success, raising over $700 during the two days, and Steve estimates the total attendance was around 5,000 people. Harold himself, in addition to all the time and effort he put into the convention, personally donated $100 to the Fund. Steve Harold organized a raffle at the show, which raised over $100 at $1 a ticket. The raffle featured sketches donated by Tim Bradstreet, Mark Crilley, David Mack, Angel Mendina, Mark Nelson and James O'Barr. Political cartoonist donated his collected cartoons, What America Wants, America Gets; Jill Thompson donated two copies of her Scary Godmother hard cover; and Keith Anderson, president of Keith's Komix in Schaumburg IL, once again generously donated choice items for the CBLDF to auction off--in this case, two limited edition Babylon 5 dolls and an uncut Wildstorm Comics Chromium card sheet, signed by Jim Lee. Motor City Productions also organizes the Motor City Convention in Detroit. |
