February 28 & March 1, 1998Report: Northampton Comic-conOn Feburary 28 and March 1, the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund appeared at the third annual Northampton Comic-con. 450 people attended the con, which was held at the upscale Hotel Northampton in downtown Northampton, MA. The show was organized by Bob Mankus of Bob's Comics in Springfield and Northampton, and Bill Fagelman. The show featured appearances by a number of creators, including Mark Bode, Paul Jenkins, Joe Jusko, Peter Laird, Mark Masztal and Bernie Wrightson. The show featured an auction at the end of the day on Sunday, which raised another $175 for the CBLDF, including $50 from Ernie Pelletier for a W. C. Carani drawing. Bernie Wrightson capped off his appearance by donating $100 to the CBLDF in cash. All told, the Fund raised over $600 at the convention. The CBLDF was represented by Fund Treasurer Susan Alston, Assistant Director Chris Bleistein, Donations Coordinator Mike Dow, and ferocious mascot Smutty Nose! |
