Conventions

Comic-ConCountdown to Comic-Con, continued...

MONDAY, August 10th: CONNECTIONS 98

While the Comic-Con is a four-day event, the San Diego experience actually lasts a full week for many. Connections 98 is an industry expo where publishers, distributors, and other service providers can ply their wares to retailers before the con begins. Connections 98 opens Monday with a series of publisher presentations, in which comics sellers will get an advance look at what the future holds for 1999.

CBLDF Executive Director Chris Oarr will participate as well, delivering an address on the State of the Fund at 11am as part of the retailer presentations on Monday.

Apart from everything else, Comic-Con is a week-long party. Oni Press kicks things off with their own bash Monday night. Oni will be celebrating their first smash debut on the publishing scene, now one year strong. The CBLDF will be on hand as well to present publishers Bob Shreck and Joe Nozemack with the first-ever "Friend of the Fund Award," in recognition of Oni's outstanding effort bringing Free Speeches to light. This collection of great speeches by Neil Gaiman, Frank Miller, Dave Sim, and ACLU president Nadine Strossen in support of free expression for comics will debut at the Comic-Con, and every retailer and attending professional will receive one at the CBLDF booth.

On to Tuesday at Connections 98
