October 19, 1999MAKING WAVES: The Comics Event Of The New Millennium
MAKING WAVES is a unique chance for comics aficionados to wine, dine, and above all, converse with some of their favorite creators. Far removed from the chaos that often surrounds these artists at comic conventions or store signings, the cruise will present an informal atmosphere where we can all talk to each other. All proceeds from the event benefit the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund, a nonprofit organization protecting the First Amendment rights of the comics community. MAKING WAVES leaves from Los Angeles and heads to the Mexican Riviera, with ports of call in Puerto Vallarta, Cabo San Lucas, and Mazatlan. The cruise will feature week-long comics programming, including cocktail parties, slide shows, panel discussions, Q & A sessions, writing seminars, chalk-talks, diner parties, and much more. Fans will be able to sign up for dinners and drinks with all the attending pros to guarantee time for some quality conversation. Of course, this is in addition to all the informal hanging-out in the ship's bars, pools, sundecks, and restaurants. When not attending the onboard programming, guests will have plenty of decadent diversions to pass the time. In addition to the requisite opportunities for swimming and lounging, the ship features a casino, spas, sporting activities, theater shows, movies, round the clock room service, and more. There's even play areas for the kids. The cruise ship includes nine deck levels with a sliding scale of cabin
rates, from luxury accommodations to "starving artist" rates (and no,
