Banned Books Week is happening September 22 – 28, and CBLDF is excited to release Read Banned Comics to help you get ready for all the festivities! Read it online below or grab your copy at your local comic shop today!
When considering the vast number of books in the world, it’s clear that proportionally comics are the most frequently challenged and banned. So CBLDF has created a visual guide that helps you identify, understand, and protect them! Discover the books frequently facing censorship. Hear from the creators themselves as they talk about their own experiences having work banned, including Neil Gaiman, Raina Telgemeier, G. Willow Wilson, and more. Explore fun and educational ideas for hosting Banned Books Week events in your store, school, or library!
Read Banned Comics is a free resource that delves into comics that are challenged, how to report and fight censorship, programming ideas, and more tips to make a celebration of Banned Books Week in your community! CBLDF is an official sponsor of Banned Books Week, and this year’s theme is Censorship Leaves Us in The Dark, and offers the call to action for everyone to Keep The Light On. The annual celebration of the freedom to read will be observed in libraries, schools, bookstores, and other community settings across the nation and the world. The free handbook can be viewed and downloaded below.
If you are hosting an event or Banned Books Week display, let us know about it! Register your event with Banned Books Week at http://www.bannedbooksweek.org/events!
