The Comic Book Legal Defense Fund is proud to announce its inaugural writing contest, the CBLDF Writing Competition for Excellence in Comic Book Scholarship. The competition is directed to current students at any U.S. law school and seeks writings about comic books and the comic book industry. The competition is directed by CBLDF Board member Dale Cendali, a partner at the law firm of Kirkland & Ellis LLP. The winner of the competition will have the opportunity to participate in a CBLDF presentation at Comic-Con International in San Diego this summer.
To participate, students should submit an original piece of legal writing addressing a legal issue or issues related to comic books, the comic book industry, or a matter that relates to, or affects, them. Eligible applicants must be enrolled as either a full- or part-time student at a U.S. law school. The writing must be the author’s original creation (although it may be co-authored) and may be either an unpublished manuscript or a published article that was published no longer than one year prior to the competition deadline.
All submissions must be received by April 17, 2015. Along with your writing, please provide your name, address, e-mail address, and the law school that you currently attend. Final submissions and any questions should be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org.
The competition’s winner will be chosen by a panel of judges led by CBLDF Board member Dale Cendali, a partner at the law firm of Kirkland & Ellis LLP. The winner will be selected based on content, originality, timeliness, quality, and relevancy. CBLDF hopes to award one grand prize winner and two runner ups selected from the competing papers. In addition, the winning papers will be made available on CBLDF’s website and promoted to its members.
The grand prize winning paper will be published on cbldf.org. The winner will also earn the opportunity to present their work during a CBLDF presentation at Comic-Con International. CBLDF will furnish a badge for the winner and one guest. The winner will also receive a complimentary one-year membership to Comic Book Legal Defense Fund.
Runners-up will be published on cbldf.org and will receive a complimentary one-year membership to Comic Book Legal Defense Fund.
