EXCLUSIVE: Ben Hatke Shares the Love for Kids Comics with CBLDF!

In less than 24 hours, we’ll be celebrating Free Comic Book Day, and with it, the launch of Children’s Book Week! Friend of the Fund Ben Hatke, creator of Zita the Spacegirl, took a moment to share his thoughts on kids comics exclusively with CBLDF, and he did so using the format we all love so much — with a comic!

Free Comic Book Day leads off the celebration of Children’s Book Week at more than 2,000 comic book specialty stores, which will be giving away millions of free kids comics! Ben Hatke is the author of the New York Times bestselling Zita the Spacegirl trilogy as well as the picture book Julia’s House for Lost Creatures. In addition to writing and drawing comics, he also paints in the naturalist tradition and, occasionally, performs one-man fire shows. Hatke lives and works in the Shenandoah Valley with his wife and their boisterous pack of daughters. His next book, Little Robot, is forthcoming in September 2015.

Special thanks to our friends at First Second for coordinating this exclusive.
