This weekend (March 30 – April 1), I am excited to represent the CBLDF at EMERALD CITY COMICON in Seattle, Washington! Continuing our cross-country marathon of fundraising, we will be in booth #1007 at the Washington State Convention Center. Stop by and say hello, and you’ll find a number of signings, exciting membership incentives, and member appreciation items! The CBLDF is currently raising money to pay down the $45,000 debt accrued in R. v. Matheson, so every contribution helps. If you live in the Seattle area, ECCC is the perfect chance to support the cause!
Throughout the weekend, artist Tony Harris (Ex Machina) and author Chris Roberson (iZombie) will be signing at our booth (see below for a complete schedule). Both Tony and Chris will have surprise exclusive items premiering at ECCC, and all proceeds will benefit the CBLDF! We will also have copies of the classic “IN RELIG ORAN” print on hand, featuring lovely painted artwork by Mr. Harris, which illuminates a poem by CBLDF board member and fantasist supreme Neil Gaiman!
CBLDF supporters in the Pacific Northwest will want to stop by booth #1007 and pick up a free copy of one of two awesome comics, available only to current CBLDF members. First, we have the CBLDF exclusive Glory #23 “FIGHT CENSORSHIP” variant cover, signed by series writer Joe Keatinge with art by Ross Campbell! This is the first issue of the critically acclaimed Glory relaunch, featuring a bold new direction for the character by two of comics’ most unique talents! Supplies are limited! The other exclusive is the CBLDF Liberty Annual 2011 Frank Quitely sketch cover, signed by Mr. Quitely himself!
These exclusive comics are free for all members, current as of March 2012. If you’re not a member, ECCC is a great opportunity to join in person!
Aside from these great member appreciation items and awesome creator appearances, we will have a booth full of fantastic donation premiums. There will be signed books for all ages and interests, by creator supporters including Neil Gaiman, Robert Kirkman, Frank Miller, Art Speigelman, and many more! We will have a variety of gorgeous signed prints, with artwork from folks like Jim Lee, Frank Quitely, and Becky Cloonan. Finally, we will have our popular line of t-shirts, including the newly acquired Comics Code Authority Seal shirt, featuring the infamous Comics Code Authority stamp.
Here’s your chance, Seattle, to show how much you care about Free Expression in the greatest art form on Earth! If you love comics and value Free Speech, stop by booth #1007 and donate, join the Fund, and get the latest details about our ongoing case work! We have a booth full of donation premiums, great creators appearing, and membership forms at the ready. Show the world that Seattle is city that stands strong for the First Amendment, and help make ECCC our biggest event of the year!
I’ll see you there!
