Charles Brownstein Talks Comics Censorship on Boston’s WERS Radio

cbldf_logoCBLDF Executive Director Charles Brownstein recently lent his expertise to an episode of the radio show You Are Here on Boston’s WERS 88.9 FM. Take a listen below as host Phillip Jones speaks to Brownstein and others about worldwide challenges and bans of graphic novels and picture books!

The 13-minute episode focuses primarily on challenges to Marjane Satrapi’s Persepolis, both in the Middle East and here in the United States (the biggest of those challenges took place in Chicago), and to Maurice Sendak’s In The Night Kitchen. Regarding parental challenges to books and comics in U.S. schools and libraries, Brownstein said:

The issue in these cases is not that somebody says, ‘I don’t want this in my home, I do not want my kids reading this,’ the issue is when somebody says, ‘I don’t want this book in anybody’s home.’
