CBLDF is making its annual appearance at New York Comic-Con, but we haven’t forgotten the West Coast! You’ll also find us in Seattle for GeekGirlCon! We’ll be at booth #806 with signed goodies, She Changed Comics, and more!

scc-cover-webGeekGirlCon celebrates women’s contributions to science and technology, comics, arts, literature, and gaming, and CBLDF Editorial Director Betsy Gomez will be on hand with copies of She Changed Comics, our new resource about the women who changed free expression in comics, signed premiums, and more in support of CBLDF’s First Amendment work!

On Sunday, October join Gomez at 3:00 p.m. in Furiosa for “Censorship of Women in Comics,” a panel focused on the challenges women face when they express themselves:

Why do comics by or about girls and women make some people so uncomfortable that they are moved to challenge and censor books that focus on female sexuality and coming of age stories? In this panel, Comic Book Legal Defense Fund’s Editorial Director Betsy Gomez will examine case studies of banned and challenged comics created by or centered on females. We’ll also examine the plight of women who have been imprisoned or threatened for expressing themselves through cartoons.

GeekGirlCon takes place at The Conference Center, located at 8th and Pike in downtown Seattle, across the street from the Washington State Convention Center. For more details on the show, visit http://geekgirlcon.com/
