Panelists Announced for NYCC Defending Comics Today!

CBLDF is proud to announce we will be joined by three stellar guests for our panel this weekend at New York Comic Con. Interim director Jeff Trexler and digital editor Jordan Smith will be joined by CBLDF board members Amy Chu, Joseph Illidge, and Jen King!

On Sunday, October 9, CBLDF will host the panel Comic Book Legal Defense Fund: Defending Comics Today at 1:30 p.m. We will be discussing the recently secured victory for Gender Queer in Virginia Beach as well as current trends in censorship and strategies for overcoming them.

Join Interim Director Jeff Trexler, Digital Director Jordan Smith, and special guests for a timely discussion of the past, present, and future of comics censorship.

About the Panelists


Amy Chu

Amy Chu is a writer for comics and TV, including the Netflix animated series DOTA: Dragon’s Blood. For DC Comics and Marvel Comics, she has written popular characters such as Wonder Woman, Poison Ivy, Deadpool, Ant-Man, Iron Man, Aero, and Sword Master. She is also known for her work on KISSDejah ThorisDMC (Darryl Makes Comics)Green HornetRed Sonja, and Red Sonja & Vampirella Meet Betty & Veronica. For children, Amy has written the graphic novels Sea Sirens and Sky Island (A Trot & Cap’n Bill Adventure Series, Penguin Random House) and Ana and the Cosmic Race (Papercutz).

Joseph Illidge 

Joseph Illidge is an editorial director, writer, creative architect, and public speaker. His career in publishing and media includes groundbreaking work for DC Comics, Valiant Comics, Lion Forge Comics, and celebrated boutique publishers. Illidge started his editorial career at Milestone Media, the groundbreaking publisher behind Static Shock, and he is currently the Executive Editor for Heavy Metal, the seminal illustrated magazine and brand for science fiction, fantasy, and horror.

Jen King

Jen King has been in the comic book industry since 1992. She is a member of ComicsPro, a regular contributor to industry outlets, a moderator on many retailer/publisher Facebook pages, a co-owner of the Comic Book Shopping Network (CBSN, AASN, GSN), an Eisner-nominated (and sometime finalist) store owner, the writer of a weekly comic review called “Minute to Skim It” on Facebook, and a panelist at Comic-Con International: San Diego and New York Comic Con. King has appeared on AMC’s Comic Book Men, in Comic Con: A Fan’s Hope, and on IFC and G4. She loves mentoring fellow peers and helping out anywhere she can.
